SF MOMA Sculpture Gardens
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art was the site of this project which encompassed all areas of Olson’s expertise – from structural steel to ornamental stainless & glass. This project contains the largest girder ever fabricated in the San Leandro shop – 110 feet long, 6 feet tall and weighs 70,000 pounds. The scope of this project included placing an overlook and pavilion structure on top of the existing parking garage, and placing a foot bridge from the existing SFMOMA building to the sculpture garden. This project presented some challenges – the girders were mechanically spliced together in the field, and had to be lifted 70 feet into place within a very narrow San Francisco alley.
