UC Davis Shrem Museum
Olson Steel performed the Preconstruction, Detailing, and Fabrication and Erection of the Structural Steel and Misc. Metals for this highly architectural art museum building with an extremely complex curving geometry. The building features a complex grand canopy structure with 952 perforated aluminum beams that required extensive design coordination. The overall building design incorporates outside spaces, interior courtyards, and interior spaces into one work of art itself. The UC Davis Shrem Museum of Art won the 2018 AISC IDEAS2 Award. The new U.C Davis Shrem Museum has been designed by New York-based design firm, SO – IL and Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, a prominent architectural firm, the new museum is envisioned as a regional center of experimentation, participation and learning.
